Summer Skin

Lovely orb, hung in the vast above
reflecting light on the expanse below
The flick of a switch could turn on the light
but it is the moon, as our desires well know

The day deceives what the night will bring
for in the heat of light and ray
Societal coverings seem senseless
yet through sweat and work, on they stay

Luminous beams persuade us to shed
the barrier between our beings
Bodies now the only source of heat
darkness allowing this to be freeing

Lunar reign brings wind to awaken
the fervent warmth of our two cores
For in the toss and turn of sleepless
this inner heat beckons us to explore

Safely beneath the weight of my world
limbs anchored, yet easily swayed
Our spheres harmonized for a moment
the moon casting us in gleaming shade

...drifting...

Drifting, leaving, dissolving slowly
Two beings sharing space
She moved backwards into comfort
He pushed forward to see her face

Awkwardly fumbling, searching for words
The strain betrayed his age
He posed the question of defining
Bringing new depth on to the stage

Sitting, shifting, then pressing onward
History forming his thoughts
Carefully picking words like flowers
He desired not for her to feel caught

Racing, reasoning, reaching upwards
His features held by her tips
Desperate to bring him certainty
Yet known it would not be found on her lips

Knowing, weighing, conflicting truths
But forced to see the end
Giving herself: a damaging cost
The price too great, for more than a friend

Writhing, bruising, resisting instinct
Only seeing lights turn red
She has to stop what never started
Convince him the feeling was just in his head
